It's All About Perspective!

Last year I decided to accept an assignment overseas with the hopes of seeing another country and being able to live out different life experiences. I walked into my new role full of optimism and excitement from the possibilities that lay ahead. Accepting the assignment would not only help boost my career options but would also boost my pocket book, which I could definitely use a little more of after moving back to Silicon Valley!

I didn't think much about the work I would be doing. I figured it would be the typical health care stuff, doing what I usually do as a nurse, taking care of people. Shortly into the assignment however, I quickly realized that this new role was going to be much more difficult than I anticipated. This assignment would challenge me in ways I could never have predicted mentally, emotionally and professionally. Not more than a month into the position I started getting homesick and hated the scorching hot weather, I didn't like feeling trapped and unable to leave, I didn't like my work hours, I didn't like the work I was doing, I didn't like the limited food selection. I didn't like my transportation situation, and I didn't like not being able to see my friends and family when I wanted. The list went on and on. I complained about everything and believed I had made a terrible mistake accepting the job. I was absolutely miserable!

I was just about at my last straw and ready to call it quits, until I was reminded that the outcome of my circumstance would be determined by my outlook. I could look at the glass as being half empty or half full. I could spend the rest of my time complaining about my situation or I could choose to make the most out of the experience. Ultimately, it was all about my perspective.

There's no question you are going to face challenges in life. You might get laid off from your job or passed over for a promotion or maybe you receive a bad report from the doctor, or your marriage is falling apart, or the kids are giving you a hard time. Whatever the case may be, your perspective can be the breaking or

making point of how you come out of the situation. There's some well known scripture in the Bible that says "All things are working together for our good" and another that says "Everything the enemy meant for evil God worked it out for our good!" These are some pretty powerful messages and they remind us that no matter what we go through, or how difficult life is, it will always work out for our good! The end result may not always be what we anticipated but it will be in our best interest and it will be good! Amen.

Once I was reminded of this important life lesson I began to change my outlook and the assignment became much more enjoyable. I learned more about myself, I grew professionally as a nurse and was even able to get into better physical shape. The assignment ended up being very rewarding and I was able to accomplish a great deal both personally and professionally. Looking back at the situation now, I'm so glad I chose to change my perspective, it made all the difference!

If you are going through a difficult time right now be encouraged, change your perspective and remember no matter what, it will always work out for your good!

Be Blessed!
